A show of
hands: hand portrait gallery
“…we
LOVE our hand drawing! It is unbelievable!”
Contribute to the creation of your own heirloom
masterpiece!
The hand portrait process:
I
begin by asking questions to explore what kind of visual image you are hoping
for, what colors you would like to emphasize, and what symbols and themes you
would like the image to express.
I
trace your hand, or couples can trace each others’ hands. It
is helpful to focus your attention on what you are reaching for in your life,
and/or what is important that you want to hold on to, while the tracing is being
done. When you lay your hand on the paper, the paper receives and holds
your energy and your intention.
As I
use colored pencils and oil pastels to create your hand portrait, I am focusing
on creating a visual manifestation of your intentions. It's a ritual process that engages both
of our creative energies, and has been extremely satisfying for all the
individuals and couples that have commissioned portraits.
Hand portraits make a unique
gift to commemorate special occasions such as birthdays, weddings,
anniversaries, and any rite of passage.
A single personal hand portrait is $250 (unframed), plus
postage costs. Dimensions are 14”
x 11”.
A double hand portrait is $500 (unframed), plus shipping
costs. Dimensions are 13.5” x 17”.
I ask for half of the cost prior to beginning, and the
second half before shipping the finished piece.
If you live out of the
California Bay Area:
If
you are out of the area, I can mail the paper to you, then you could trace your
own hand or hands, or have a beloved trace them for you. You would mail the paper back to me,
and I use that same sheet for the drawing. We would still have a conversation about the hand portrait, but
on the phone or in writing.
